A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse with specialized education and training in psychiatry. Like psychiatrists PMHNPs can evaluate, diagnose, treat, provide therapy, and prescribe medications. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners must complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and a Master’s of Science in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. Then they must take a national exam to become Board Certified.
